Year in Review

{2006 in review}
I read this on Heather D. White's blog and loved it!
1. What did you do in 2006 that you had never done before? I stayed at the Alyeska Prince Hotel. I hosted a Pampered Chef party. I sold a house. I learned how to care for the elderly. I ice skated backwards!
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions and will you make more for 2007? I didn't make any resolutions last year. I will make some this year, though!
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes. My good friend Heather had a beautiful baby girl.
4. Did anyone close to you die? Yes. My mom.
5. What countries did you visit? None. But I did go to Vegas in January, which is almost like another land. lol
6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? More patience.
7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? May 10th, the day my mom passed away.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? I'd say every shift that I work at the assisted living home is an achievement for me. I swear I learn something new every time I'm there.
9. What was your biggest struggle? Definitely going through the probate process and taking care of my mom's estate was my biggest struggle. It's something I hope I never have to do again.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? I had shingles twice this year...sress-related.
11. What was the best thing you bought? I didn't make any major purchases this year, but Paul would probably say the Argo with the best thing he bought.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? I'm so proud of Sam for how far he's come academically this year.
13. Whose behavior appalled you? The behavior of people when a family member dies. I saw it in my own family, and in the families of the residents at the home. I will never understand the greed.
14. Where did most of your money go? Most of our money went to everyday living expenses this year. We didn't have the disposable income this year that we did last year.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about this year? Being together with three of my sisters and my two brothers. It was the first time the six of us had been together in 30 years.
16. What song will always remind you of 2006? She's Somebody's Hero.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: much happier, nicer or richer? I'd say much happier. Certainly not richer! Nicer? Not sure. But happier...yep. This time last year, I was working a full-time job that I thought was my dream job, only to find out different. I found that the extra money wasn't what I wanted afterall. My kids are only little for a short time, and I don't want to be travelling and miss out on it. No amount of money can make up for being homesick!
18. What do you wish you had done more of? I wish I'd just played more, and worried less.
19. What do you wish you had done less of? I wish I'd spent less time worrying and stressing.
20. Did you fall in love in 2006? I've been permanently in love since 1994!
21. What was your favorite TV program? Desperate Housewives.
22. What was the best book you read this year? "Twas the Night Before Christmas
23. What was your greatest musical discovery? Hmmm. I discovered I love music of all kinds!
24. What did you want and get? I wanted new cookware, and got it.
25. What was your favorite film of the year? Lucky Number Slevin.
26. What did you do on your birthday and how old did you turn?I turned 38. That was the day Mom moved out of my house and into the assisted living home.
27. What one thing would have made your year more satisfying? To be able to look back and laugh more, and cry less.
28. How would you describe your personal fashion statement this year? My statement would have to be "Yes, these jeans are too tight, but I refuse to buy size 10's!"
29. What kept you sane? Paul.
30. What celebrity did you fancy the most? Nicholas Cage.
31. What political issue stirred you the most? The war and the slanted media coverage of it.
32. Who did you miss? My friend Kori.
33. Who were the best new people you met this year? Lorna. Meagan, Rhonda, Amy, Linda, Nicole, Sarah, Cheryl, who I work with.
33. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned this year. Love your family. Tell them often. In the end, that's all you have. When life ends, all that matters is that your family is there with you. That you know you've been loved. Money doesn't matter. Your house, your clothes, your possesions. They can all be taken away, but if you have family, you will be at peace.
