Junk Market Style

One of my all-time favorite decorating books is "Junk Market Style" by Ki and Sue. I picked it up when it first came out a couple years ago, and still love to browse it to soak up the eye candy and get decorating inspiration.

This bottled flower art is their idea, and fits in pretty well with my living room style. I found the bottle and frame at two different thrift stores, the chain in the junk drawer in my kitchen, and the silk peony at Walmart. Instead of installing a wood backing on the frame, I screwed the broom clip (you can find these in any hardware aisle) directly to the wall. The frame was originally gold gilt, so I shabbied it up with some acrylic paint, leaving some of the gilting showing through, and finished it off with a coat of gloss Mod Podge. The chain is attached to the back with two small screws. Right now it's hanging from a nail, but I'd like to find an old crystal knob or maybe even an old hose faucet to hang it from.

I'm still putting some finishing touches on the bathroom, like the shower and window curtains, and I have a small vanity mirror to refinish. So pictures will be coming soon!

Oh, and I wanted to mention that I watched The Painted Veil last night, and boy was that ever a good movie! It's a period romance, so kind of a "chick flick", and lost Paul'l interest after about the first 1/2 hour. But I loved it. It has a very powerful message about marriage, set in the time of the cholera epidemic in China. Naomi Watts is just oustanding in it.

OK, coffee time. Have a great Monday!
